Fires in Long Grove and Barrington 7-13-13

Two Lake County (Division 4) departments responded to small fires during a hot afternoon on Saturday.

The Long Grove Fire District was called to a smoke incident at 2316 Nichols Road in unincorporated Cook County at 3:30 PM. Firefighters found a fire in a first-floor storage room, which they quickly extinguished. They then conducted a full building check for any signs of extension across the three-story apartment complex. Several mutual aid companies from Lake Zurich, Buffalo Grove, Palatine, Barrington, and the Palatine Rural Fire Protection District arrived to assist with the response.

The Barrington Fire Department responded to a fence fire next to a building at 171 Walton Street at 4:30 PM. The fire spread to the adjacent structure and posed a threat to a commercial building across the street, as well as overhead power lines. Firefighters managed to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further. Additional mutual aid units from East Dundee, Palatine Rural, Cary, and Fox River Grove assisted in the effort.

Residents in both areas were advised to stay alert and avoid the affected zones while firefighters worked to fully secure the scenes. No injuries were reported, and the cause of both fires is under investigation.
