Huazhong Agricultural University develops rapeseed no-till live broadcast machine

Huazhong Agricultural University has recently introduced an innovative no-tillage direct seeding machine for rapeseed, marking a significant advancement in agricultural technology. This machine is capable of completing multiple operations in one go, including rotary tillage, fertilization, sowing, furrowing, and soil coverage. It offers notable benefits such as reduced labor requirements, improved efficiency, and better resource conservation. The development addresses several critical technical challenges in the direct seeding of rapeseed in paddy fields, representing a major breakthrough in agronomic machinery. The machine was developed by a research team led by Dr. Liao Qingxi, who is part of the "11th Five-Year" National Science and Technology Support Program's "Low Five" rapeseed high-yield and efficient cultivation technology project. It was first tested in rice fields at the experimental demonstration base in Shayang County, Hubei Province, in September this year. The trial showed promising results and demonstrated the machine’s potential to revolutionize traditional farming methods. On November 21st and 22nd, Professor Wu Jiangsheng from the College of Plant Science and Technology, along with Dr. Zhou Guangsheng and Dr. Liao Qingxi from the School of Engineering and Technology, visited Hubei’s Shayang, Zhongxiang, and Tianmen to conduct an on-site inspection of the National Science and Technology Support Program. They focused on the progress of the rapeseed high-yield and efficient cultivation technology demonstration site, particularly the no-tillage rapeseed cultivation in rice fields. Their visit highlighted the importance of the project and emphasized its role in promoting sustainable agricultural practices in China. This innovation not only improves productivity but also supports environmental sustainability by reducing soil disturbance and conserving water and nutrients. As the technology continues to evolve, it is expected to play a key role in enhancing food security and supporting farmers in the region.
