The largest domestic titanium acid sewage treatment plant settled in Panzhihua
On April 9, China's largest titanium acid sewage treatment plant officially broke ground in the Panzhihua Vanadium and Titanium Industrial Park. This major infrastructure project marks a significant step forward in environmental protection efforts within one of the country's key industrial zones.
The facility is developed by Singapore Federal International Group and follows the international BOO (Build-Operate-Own) model. It will centralize the treatment of large-scale industrial wastewater, primarily acidic effluent from the titanium industry. With a total design capacity of 100,000 cubic meters per day, the plant will be constructed in two phases: the first phase will handle 25,000 cubic meters per day, while the second phase will increase the capacity to 50,000 cubic meters per day. The entire project spans 183 acres and involves a total investment of 285 million yuan, with the first phase costing 106 million yuan. The initial phase is expected to be completed and operational by the end of August this year.
According to Xiong Qigao, deputy director of the Panzhihua Vanadium and Titanium Industry Park Management Committee, the park has experienced seven years of steady growth and development. A complete titanium industrial chain—from titanium slag to titanium dioxide, titanium tetrachloride, and sponge titanium—has been largely established. However, as more titanium dioxide enterprises have emerged, pollution levels in the park have worsened. The large volume of acidic wastewater generated by these industries has become a critical challenge for environmental management. Building a centralized sewage treatment plant is now essential to address these growing concerns and ensure sustainable industrial development in the region.
