Box alarm fire in Lake Forest, 2-23-17

Lake Forest firefighters responded to a fire at 81 W. North Avenue on Thursday, February 23, 2017, after reports of smoke coming from the basement of an occupied home that was undergoing renovations. Upon arrival, thick black smoke was visible, prompting the alarm to be upgraded to a Code 4 due to the active fire. As conditions worsened and parts of the first floor became unstable, the incident was escalated to a Box Alarm. Firefighters worked quickly to bring the blaze under control, and shortly after, the incident commander began to clear the scene by releasing responding units. Several photos from the scene are available, capturing the aftermath of the fire and the emergency response. The images include shots of fire trucks, an ambulance, and various fire department vehicles from surrounding areas. "Being in the area, this was a bit out of my usual beat," said Steve Redick, a local photographer.
