Stephen Wilcox has shared a detailed account of another fire that took place in western Dupage County (MABAS Division 12) last month. Here's what he reported:

Wheaton Fire: 419 N. Ellis on June 17, 2011 at 04:47. The two-story home, built around 1900, was a balloon-frame structure with lath and plaster walls and knob-and-tube wiring. When crews arrived, the weather was warm and humid. The fire had spread across all floors and into the attic. Neighbors believed someone might still be inside, prompting an extra alarm response. Several handlines and six ground ladders were deployed. The family had just returned from the Far East.

#2 Ventilation started... #9 Roof opened... #12 2nd floor: VENT, ENTER, SEARCH #15 The member is in for a quick search, return to ladder, move, repeat. #27 Area of origin near the stairs facilitating fire spread. #37 Members are picking up as the sun shines on a 20 story building, #1 Wheaton Center. Notice, (how can you miss) that first due truck 417 and the fireground is still dark.
