The southbound lanes of the Bishop Ford Freeway (I-94) were shut down near 137th Street for approximately three hours following a severe semi-truck crash into the median. The impact damaged the vehicle's saddle tank, causing diesel fuel to leak and flow downhill toward the shoulder. Another car was also involved in this incident, which took place on the incline leading up to the Steel Bridge. Engine 80 and Truck 62 were the first to arrive on the scene. They quickly deployed a hose line and began containing the spilled fuel. Meanwhile, Engine 75 positioned itself on the Beaubien Woods off-ramp, setting up another line of defense. The accident occurred around 4:55 PM, and emergency crews stayed on-site until 7:45 PM, when the State Police finally reopened the freeway.

I just wanted to share some quick thoughts on how these types of incidents can disrupt traffic and cause significant delays. It’s always impressive to see how quickly emergency responders spring into action to handle situations like this. I’m glad they managed to contain the situation relatively quickly, but it still must have been frustrating for drivers stuck in the backup. Hopefully, everyone involved is okay, and repairs can be made swiftly to get the freeway back to normal operations.
