This is a report from Jeff Braun, Jr:
According to what I’ve heard, the Lyons Fire Department received a call about a potential structure fire at 8155 W. Ogden Ave. around 6:30 PM on August 4th, 2016. When Engine 1312 arrived on the scene, they initially reported a fully-involved apartment unit fire on the second floor. However, it turned out to be a fire on the second-floor balcony, which firefighters managed to extinguish before it could spread to the rest of the building. As soon as Engine 1312 got there, Riverside Truck Co. 1629 took up a position on the Bravo side of the building, while Lyons 1312 set up directly in front of them. By the time I arrived, the fire was already under control, and the teams were conducting overhaul operations. Some of the other units present included Lyons Rescue Engine 1316, Engine 1311, and Medic 1314. Riverside Chief 1618 was also on-site, along with engines from McCook and Brookfield, though those units were sent back once they arrived.
I took some photos of the scene after the fire had been put out. You can see the firefighters still working on the second floor, checking for any remaining hotspots. There’s an aerial ladder truck positioned near the building’s roof, helping with the final stages of extinguishing any lingering flames. The firefighters are clearly focused and professional, making sure no detail is overlooked. In one image, you can see a firefighter standing on the patio outside an apartment, inspecting the area for damage. Another shot captures the intense focus of the team as they work together to ensure everything is safe.
There are several other images showing different angles of the fire scene. One shows the aerial ladder truck fully extended towards the roof, providing crucial support during the firefighting operation. Another photo highlights the collaboration between multiple departments, with firefighters from various units working side by side to bring the situation under control. It’s clear that teamwork played a key role in containing the fire before it could escalate further.
Overall, this incident highlights the dedication and skill of our local firefighters. Their quick response and coordinated efforts prevented what could have been a much more serious situation. Special thanks go out to all the responders who worked tirelessly to protect the community.
