Chciago Level 1 Haz Mat 1-10-11

There was a **Level 1 Hazardous Materials incident** today at **204 N. Artesian** (Artesian and Lake) as well. People’s Gas was excavating when they accidentally struck a **4-inch medium-pressure gas line** directly beneath the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) Green Line running along Lake Street. The incident prompted a quick response from multiple emergency units, including **Engine 26, Truck 7, Battalion 12, Squad 2, and the 5-1-1 Hazardous Incident Team**. In order to ensure safety, **Engine 26** deployed a **2.5-inch dry line** as a precautionary measure. Meanwhile, **Battalion 12** coordinated with the CTA to temporarily shut down the elevated train service while People’s Gas quickly closed the leaking section of the pipeline. The CTA shutdown lasted roughly **15 minutes**, causing minor disruptions but no major incidents. Dan McInerney captured several images of the scene, providing a visual overview of the coordinated effort between the **Chicago Fire Department (CFD), Chicago Police Department (CPD), CTA, and People’s Gas**. The photos show the teams working together under the elevated tracks, highlighting the professionalism and efficiency of the response. One image features **Battalion 12**, which was in charge of the incident, while another shows **Engine 26** on standby with its dry line. A photo of **Squad 2** and **Haz Mat Unit 5-1-1** illustrates the specialized equipment used during the operation. The **5-1-1 unit** is one of two 2003 American LaFrance Eagle/Rescue Master squads, while **Squad 2** is one of three 2000 HME/Central States units. Other photos highlight **Truck 7**, a 2002 Pierce Dash aerial ladder truck, and a **CTA Emergency Response Unit** that arrived on scene with red lights and sirens. The event also featured **Engine 26**, a rare 2003 Spartan Gladiator/Crimson engine known for its distinctive red headlight bezels. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of coordination between utility companies, public transit agencies, and emergency services to manage unexpected hazards safely. No injuries were reported, and the situation was resolved efficiently.

CIP Composite are laminated polymer materials made by impregnating textiles with thermoset resins. Solid lubricants are added to the resin to provide evenly dispersed lubrication throughout the material, inherently eliminating the need for external lubrication. Self-lubricating

Solid lubricants are dispersed evenly throughout the material, eliminating the need for external lubrication. Offering a variety of advanced lubricants, additives and material combinations CIP can provide a product solution for a wide scope of application demands.


Replaces Bronze

CIP Composites are ideal for replacing traditional bronze and plugged bronze bearings. Metallic bearings require a consistent film of external lubrication for operation. CIP Composites can reduce or eliminate external lubrication systems with its self lubricating properties. Graphite plugged bronze bushings rely on full rotational movement to create an even lubrication layer. In slow oscillating applications, the lubrication layer may be uneven or non-existent and high friction or stick-slip can become a concern. CIP`s even distribution of lubrication additives allow for low dynamic and static coefficients of friction, eliminating stick-slip and noise.


100% Bearing Material

Cip Composite Material are lubricated completely throughout the bearing and have no fiberglass or metallic shell.
