It’s Academy Awards Season - Great Artists With Great Technology Are Creating Great Movies

Public Company Information: NASDAQ:ADSK SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Technology continues to play a vital role in shaping compelling storytelling, and this year's Academy Award nominations highlight the remarkable artistry of the global computer graphics (CG) industry. From Best Pictures and Visual Effects to Cinematography, Animated Features, and Shorts, Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADSK), a leader in media and entertainment software, contributed to the creation of many of this year's critically acclaimed films. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences also acknowledged Autodesk's technological contributions with a prestigious Scientific and Technical Achievement Award (Sci-Tech Award). "It’s truly humbling to support such a creative community where Autodesk software has been utilized in every Best Visual Effects Oscar-winning film for 20 consecutive years," said Chris Bradshaw, Autodesk's senior vice president. "We're equally delighted that the Academy recognized Robert Bridson, who leads our Research and Development team, for his groundbreaking voxel data structures technology." Best Visual Effects In the Best Visual Effects category, all five nominated films—“Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Interstellar,” and “X-Men: Days of Future Past”—employed Autodesk technology to deliver breathtaking visuals to audiences worldwide. The exceptional work in these films was crafted by thousands of talented artists across 25 visual effects studios on four continents, spanning the entire production process from previsualization to post-production and color grading. This year's Best Animated Feature nominees showcase a diverse array of animation styles, including hand-drawn, stop-motion, and CG. Autodesk software played a crucial role in four out of the five Best Animated Feature nominees: “Big Hero 6,” “The Boxtrolls,” “How to Train Your Dragon 2,” and “The Tale of The Princess Kaguya.” Additionally, two Best Animated Short contenders, “Feast” and “The Dam Keeper,” benefited from Autodesk’s tools. Seven out of the eight Best Picture nominees—“American Sniper,” “Birdman,” “Boyhood,” “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” “The Imitation Game,” “Selma,” and “The Theory of Everything”—also utilized Autodesk software in their productions. Scientific and Technical Achievement Awards The Academy holds an annual special awards ceremony to celebrate individuals who have made significant contributions to the art of filmmaking. In a statement, Richard Edlund, an Academy Award-winning visual effects artist and chair of the Scientific and Technical Awards Committee, remarked, "Our honorees exemplify the extraordinary creativity within the scientific and technical community and the immense value they bring to an industry renowned for its innovation." This year, the Academy bestowed a Technical Achievement Award upon Robert Bridson, a senior principal research scientist at Autodesk, for his pioneering work in voxel data structures and its application in fluid simulation tools. His innovations have profoundly influenced volumetric tool development across the visual effects industry. One of the earliest adopters of this voxel technology was Weta Digital in New Zealand, which utilized it in “Avatar.” Over the years, Autodesk scientists, designers, and technologies have received similar recognition seven times during SciTech Award ceremonies. Autodesk extends its congratulations to the following studios that employed Autodesk and/or Shotgun software to contribute to this year's Academy Award-nominated films: Alchemy 24, Animal Logic, The Artery, BlueBolt, Cantina Creative, Cinesite, CoSA Visual Effects, Digital Domain, Double Negative, DreamWorks Animation, EFILM, Encore, Finland Finish, Framestore, Fuel VFX, Hydraulx, Industrial Light & Magic, LAIKA, Lola Visual Effects, LOOK! Benefits of Cast Iron
Cast iron is particularly well suited for all drainage systems as it offers many benefits, both for
above and below ground installation, which include:
Strength and durability - cast iron pipes are highly resistant to distortion caused by accident
or vandalism.
Long life - when correctly installed cast iron drainage systems will last the life of the building,
whether domestic, public, industrial or commercial.
Low maintenance - cast iron requires little ongoing maintenance, annual inspections are
recommended but remedial action is rarely required.
Design Capability - cast iron can meet the needs of restoration, refurbishment, conservation and
heritage work as well as new, bespoke and unique designs.
Sustainability - in addition to lasting the life of a building and requiring minimal maintenance, cast
iron is also 100% recyclable and can therefore be used again after the building has gone.
Cost effective - owing to its longevity, durability and low maintenance, coupled with its fire
resistance and low noise operation, the cost benefits of cast iron are significant.
Fire resistance and Safety - The melting point of cast iron is considerably higher than PVCu or PE
and in the event of a fire will not emit toxic fumes or drop burning globules of material from one
compartment to another.
