Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) has selected ZiGGY, the innovative robotic EV charger developed by EV Safe Charge, as a key participant in its summer pilot program exploring next-generation EV charging solutions. This initiative aims to evaluate new technologies that can better serve the growing number of electric vehicle (EV) owners using the airport's facilities.
ZiGGY stands out as the first and only mobile EV charger designed to efficiently and safely meet the charging needs of any commercial parking lot—whether it's an airport, shopping center, or office complex. Beyond just charging, the system features a built-in communication and advertising platform, offering site operators an additional revenue stream while enhancing engagement with EV drivers.
This pilot at DFW marks a groundbreaking moment, as it is the first of its kind globally. From May through August, the airport’s Innovation and Planning teams will conduct a series of EV charging demonstrations, showcasing cutting-edge technologies like ZiGGY. The goal is to identify scalable and flexible solutions that can support the increasing number of EV drivers passing through the airport.
“Airports must keep up with the rising demand for convenient and reliable EV charging options,†said Caradoc Ehrenhalt, founder and CEO of EV Safe Charge. “When evaluating potential technologies for their pilot, DFW chose ZiGGY because of its unique ability to reach every car in a parking lot—not just a few spots. We’re excited to collaborate with DFW and help them expand their EV charging capabilities, and we’re proud to be part of this historic milestone.â€
Since its founding in 2016 in Los Angeles, EV Safe Charge has been at the forefront of providing commercial EV charging solutions. In addition to selling Level 2 and DC Fast Chargers, the company develops temporary charging systems tailored for large-scale clients, including major automotive brands such as Jaguar, Porsche, Stellantis, Nissan, Audi, Daimler, and Harley-Davidson.
“From the start, we saw the need for a truly mobile EV charging solution,†explained Ehrenhalt. “Over the past three years, we’ve worked hard to develop ZiGGY—a smart, app-controlled robot that can deliver charging convenience, safety, and reliability in locations far from traditional housing areas. Being part of DFW’s demonstration allows us to bring these benefits to travelers using one of the country’s busiest airports.â€
This DFW pilot follows other recent successes for EV Safe Charge. In Barcelona, the city recently selected the company as the winner of its pilot-project competition for flexible EV charging, recognizing ZiGGY’s ability to charge multiple vehicles in a single parking area. This marks the first municipal-level pilot of a mobile, robotic EV charger, highlighting the growing global interest in this technology.
