Two New Conceptual Design Tools for a More Seamless and Powerful BIM Workflow
At the AIA Convention in Atlanta, Georgia, Autodesk unveiled two groundbreaking tools aimed at transforming the architectural design process: Autodesk FormIt 360 Pro and Autodesk Dynamo Studio. These new conceptual design solutions are designed to enhance collaboration, streamline workflows, and integrate more seamlessly with Building Information Modeling (BIM) systems.
"Conceptual design has long been an essential part of the architectural process, but it often operated in isolation from other stages of the project," said Jim Lynch, Vice President of the Building and Collaboration Product Line Group at Autodesk. "With FormIt 360 Pro and Dynamo Studio, we're helping architects bridge that gap and create a more connected, efficient BIM workflow."
Autodesk FormIt 360 Pro
Autodesk FormIt 360 Pro is a powerful addition to the FormIt family, offering enhanced analysis and cloud-based collaboration features that were previously only available in the paid version. This web and mobile application allows users to quickly sketch out early-stage BIM-connected concepts using intuitive 3D modeling tools. It enables teams to collaborate, analyze, and refine ideas efficiently throughout the design process.
One of the standout features of FormIt 360 Pro is its ability to perform energy and solar analysis right from the start, giving designers real-time insights into building performance. Additionally, users can conduct shadow and sun path studies to better understand how their designs interact with the surrounding environment. The tool also supports importing site maps as underlays, making it easier to align the design with real-world conditions.
FormIt Collaboration allows multiple team members to work on the same model simultaneously, whether they're on a tablet while on the move or using a browser back in the office. With native Revit integration, designers can easily transition from conceptual sketches to full BIM models, ensuring a smooth workflow. Another useful feature, FormIt Converter, enables the import of SketchUp and Revit files as editable geometry, expanding the tool's versatility.

Dynamo Studio
Dynamo Studio is a standalone platform that empowers designers to create visual logic for parametric modeling and automate complex tasks. Unlike previous versions, which required integration with other software, Dynamo Studio offers a self-contained environment that enhances interoperability across documentation, fabrication, coordination, simulation, and analysis workflows.
This tool not only streamlines the design process but also improves efficiency by enabling faster testing and iteration of ideas. Its compatibility with major Autodesk products like Revit, Navisworks, and Robot Structural Analysis, along with support for external applications such as Excel, SAP2000, and Rhinoceros, makes it a versatile choice for modern architectural practices.
Dynamo Studio gives designers greater control over their workflows, allowing them to define custom processes that influence the geometry and behavior of building models. This flexibility helps teams tackle complex challenges more effectively and explore more design options in less time.
