There are several updates coming to the Homer Township Fire Department’s apparatus fleet in the near future. Some of the current units will be retired, while a new engine is being ordered to replace them. This change reflects the department's ongoing efforts to modernize and maintain an efficient response capability.
A new stainless steel E-ONE Typhoon is currently on order for Engine 32. It is expected to arrive in July and will feature a powerful 1,500-GPM pump along with a 1,000-gallon water tank, making it well-equipped for a wide range of emergency situations.
Three units will be leaving the department:
- **Tanker 34**, a 1984 Spartan Gladiator/Pierce 1250/2500 pumper/tanker, has served the community for many years. This unit was recently taken out of service and is now being replaced by newer equipment.
- **Truck 32**, a 1995 Pierce Lance 105' rear mount aerial ladder truck, is also being retired. This ladder truck has been a vital part of the department’s aerial capabilities for nearly 30 years.
- **Engine R3**, a 2003 Pierce Saber top-mount pumper with a 1,250/750 GPM configuration, will also be phased out. This engine has been a reliable resource for local fire suppression operations.
The department has shared some photos of these retiring units to give a sense of their history and appearance over the years. These images show Tanker 34 before its retirement, Truck 32 in its original condition, and Tanker 827 when it first arrived, complete with open jump seats and a lime green paint scheme.
With the arrival of the new E-ONE engine, the Homer Township Fire Department is preparing for the next chapter in its long history of public service. The transition ensures that the department continues to provide safe, effective, and up-to-date emergency response to the community.
