It was recently announced that Flyability and IQ Motion Control have joined forces in a groundbreaking collaboration aimed at developing an advanced active collision-tolerant propulsion system. This partnership played a key role in the creation of Flyability's latest drone, the Elios 2.
The Elios 2 marks a significant leap forward in both imaging capabilities and user experience within the drone industry. Equipped with innovative technology, it ensures exceptional collision tolerance, even in highly complex indoor environments. A robust protective frame encasing the drone’s propulsion system prevents damage from collisions, while IQ Motion Control’s proprietary technology ensures rapid stabilization post-impact. Together, these features make Flyability’s drones not only safer but also easier to operate indoors.
IQ Motion Control’s motors are designed to reverse their direction instantaneously and respond far quicker than traditional motor-controller setups—up to four times faster! As Tim Corti, a senior propulsion engineer at Flyability, explained, "IQ technology eliminates the delays associated with reversing direction and provides ultra-responsive control over propeller speed." Additionally, these motors offer a 10% increase in efficiency, 5% more power, and numerous customizable control parameters, making them ideal for demanding applications.
Considering Flyability’s pivotal role in funding the development of the IQ motor module, they now hold exclusive rights to this technology in certain commercial indoor sectors requiring collision tolerance. According to Jon Broome, one of IQ Motion Control’s founders, "Flyability recognized the potential of our technology early on and collaborated closely with us over the past year to refine it for commercial purposes."
