I was driving past the scene earlier today when I saw emergency vehicles and thick smoke coming from a truck near Lake-Cook Road. It looked like it happened pretty early this morning. The fire department was on-site quickly, but the truck was already fully engulfed by the time I drove by. Thankfully, there didn’t seem to be any injuries reported, and traffic was only slightly delayed as they worked to contain it.
Max Weingardt, who I ran into later, said he had taken some photos of the aftermath. He mentioned that the vehicle was completely burned out, which explains why the images look so intense. It’s always a bit unsettling to see something like this happen so close to home. Let’s hope everyone involved is okay!
