2013 Chicago Fire Engine Rally & Swap Meet (pt 2)

This past weekend was a gathering of the 5-11 Club/Fire Buffs of Illinois at the Quinn Fire Academy, and I managed to snap some great shots while I was there. The turnout was impressive, with firefighters from various departments coming together to share their passion for the profession. Here’s a selection of images from the event: The first thing that caught my eye was the MABAS Mobile Ventilation Unit. It's a crucial piece of equipment that helps manage smoke and heat during firefighting operations. (Steve Redick photo) Next up, we have the Chicago Fire Department (CFD) training academy engine. This vehicle is used to train new recruits in the art of firefighting, ensuring they’re prepared for real-world scenarios. (Steve Redick photo) Also spotted was the CFD hi-X foam unit. Foam systems like these are essential for fighting fires involving flammable liquids, providing an effective way to suppress flames quickly. (Steve Redick photo) Another highlight was the CFD training academy truck. These vehicles undergo rigorous testing and maintenance to ensure they’re always ready when called upon. (Steve Redick photo) An antique fire engine was also on display, offering a nostalgic look back at the history of firefighting. (Steve Redick photo) One particularly striking vehicle was the American LaFrance Century Series fire engine. Its classic design combined with modern firefighting technology makes it a standout piece. (Steve Redick photo) From Berkeley, we have the E-ONE engine, known for its durability and performance on the frontlines. (Steve Redick photo) The Bensenville Fire District showcased their tower ladder, which plays a vital role in reaching high-rise structures during emergencies. (Steve Redick photo) The Evergreen Park Fire Department brought along their light wagon, perfect for situations requiring mobility and speed. (Steve Redick photo) A Pierce mini pumper was another favorite among attendees. Compact yet powerful, these vehicles are ideal for urban firefighting. (Steve Redick photo) The CFD rescue squad was also present, featuring a vehicle lettered and striped specifically for a TV series. It was fascinating to see how Hollywood influences real-life firefighting equipment. (Steve Redick photo) CFD units lettered for the same TV series were on display as well, giving fans a chance to see their favorite show come to life. (Steve Redick photo) Lastly, a C-Model Mack fire engine rounded out the collection. Known for its reliability, this model has been a staple in firefighting fleets for decades. (Steve Redick photo) It was a fantastic day filled with camaraderie and learning. If you missed it, don’t worry—there’s always next year!
