As part of National Water Quality Month in August, the company aimed to understand how the global health crisis has influenced public perceptions of tap water. The survey uncovered some revealing insights into how the pandemic has shifted concerns about water quality across the country.

Out of 2,413 American adults surveyed, 73% said they were at least somewhat worried about the quality of unfiltered tap water in their homes. Additionally, 36% of respondents reported that the pandemic had increased their worries about tap water safety.
When it came to specific contaminants, there was a notable rise in concern over cysts, bacteria, and viruses—up by 26% compared to previous years. These contaminants are now seen as the top threat by most people, even surpassing concerns about pesticides, herbicides, and lead. Moreover, awareness of “forever chemicals†(PFOS and PFOA) has nearly doubled since 2019, showing a growing public understanding of long-term water risks.

The World Health Organization also states that no evidence of the virus has been found in drinking water supplies, and the risk to water systems remains low.
