On March 14, 2019, the Beijing Institute of Metrology successfully passed the National Standard Reference Substances Review Meeting for its newly developed polystyrene microparticle standard material, which includes eight different particle sizes. The review meeting was attended by over ten experts from the Standards Substance Management Committee, including Director Shen Zhengsheng from the Ministry of Chemistry, Director Zhang Guocheng from the Institute of Environmental Energy, and project leader Zhao Xiaoning, along with members of the research team, Xiao Xiaoping and Liu Chenzhao.
During the meeting, Dr. Zhao Xiaoning provided a detailed report on the synthesis, calibration, value traceability, data analysis, and quality inspection of the polystyrene microparticles developed by the research group. The experts listened attentively and engaged in thorough discussions and questioning. Following the review, they unanimously approved the polystyrene particulate reference materials (eight particle sizes) as national secondary standard materials. They also expressed strong approval of the standards set by the Beijing Institute of Metrology in the development and production of these materials.
The successful development of this standard material marks a significant milestone for the Beijing Institute of Metrology. With the support of hospital leadership, the team from the Central Energy Institute has grown stronger, and their research capabilities have advanced rapidly. The application of these polystyrene microparticle reference materials is crucial for evaluating the particle size recognition ability of PM2.5 monitors and the cutting efficiency of PM2.5 cutters by the Beijing Metrology Institute.
Moreover, this achievement expands the business scope of the Beijing Institute of Metrology in industrial measurement and further enhances its testing technology and scientific research capabilities. Unique Working Principle
The optimization of production technology is the main goal of all companies. The main reason of this process is increasing production quality, capacity and decreasing the cost. In same cases of lab compounding, there is some limitation for temperature sensitive and shearing sensitive application due to extremely high shear rate of co-rotating Twin Screw Extruder. In such case, the priority shall be given to the Co-kneader. Co-kneader has low intensive mixing properties but without any pressure and temperature peak compared to co-rotating twin screw extruder. Also Co-kneader has stable shear rate independent on screw size. This is very useful for up scaling from laboratory data.
The barrel and screw could also be segmented according to application. The optimization of screw configuration is also needed. Too much kneading elements rapidly increase stock temperature; on the other side too less kneading element is not enough for high quality kneading. The co-kneader use many types of screw elements; basically fast and slow conveying, short kneading and kneading elements for restriction ring. Additionally elements with increased core diameter, kneading element with backward flowing characteristic and others are also usable. The restriction ring is special bore element with lower core diameter which increase melt pressure for high quality mixing. The diameter of restriction ring also need to be optimized for reducing shear rate and stock temperature.
