F1 in Schools and Autodesk Partner to Deliver Design Software to Students Worldwide

LONDON, July 17, 2013 — In a significant move to empower the next generation of engineers and designers, Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) has entered into a strategic partnership with F1 in Schools, offering free access to its comprehensive range of 3D design software for all students and schools participating in the program. With a global reach spanning over 40 countries and engaging more than 20 million students, F1 in Schools challenges young minds to design a futuristic, scale-model Formula One car. As the leading software partner, Autodesk is playing a pivotal role in supporting this innovative educational initiative. Andrew Denford, founder and chairman of F1 in Schools, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration: “Having Autodesk on board is a major milestone for us as we continue to expand our reach and grow the program. This partnership will help remove financial barriers for schools worldwide, allowing more students to engage in hands-on engineering and design experiences.” Through this alliance, Autodesk will provide students, teachers, and schools with free access to powerful design, visualization, and simulation tools. These digital resources enable participants to bring their creative ideas to life virtually before constructing their miniature Formula One cars from balsa wood. The initiative aligns with Autodesk’s broader mission to support education by providing early access to cutting-edge technology that fosters creativity and innovation among students. Chris Bradshaw, chief marketing officer at Autodesk, shared his excitement: “It's inspiring to see students as young as nine using advanced tools like virtual wind tunnels to test their designs. By working with F1 in Schools, we’re helping young people develop a lifelong passion for design and engineering.” The F1 in Schools program challenges teams of three to six students to create their own Formula One team, designing, building, and racing a 21cm-scale model car made from balsa wood and powered by compressed air. Each team presents their project at regional finals, showcasing their work through both written and verbal presentations. The competition culminates in a high-speed race on a 20-meter track, where cars complete the distance in just over a second. Winners of the regional events advance to the national championships, with the top teams competing in the F1 in Schools World Finals in Austin, Texas. There, they vie for the prestigious Bernie Ecclestone World Champions trophy and valuable scholarships to City University London. The partnership was officially announced today at an event held at Savoy Place in London, the headquarters of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
