Cooper Tire develops in the commercial vehicle market (Photos)
In November, Cooper Tire's first domestic flagship store for the Dean brand—specializing in truck and bus tires—officially opened at the Shanghai CIMC Vehicle Equipment Logistics Park. This new dealership, operated by Cooper, focuses on selling Dean-branded tires and is designed to cater to mid- to high-end passenger car and commercial vehicle customers. In a challenging economic climate, Cooper aims to introduce advanced dealership models from abroad, offering more competitive product mixes and services tailored for the Chinese market.

Value Service
Unlike the well-established presence of passenger car tire brands, there are relatively few commercial vehicle tire brands with image stores in China. This time, Cooper launched its own flagship store, aiming to capture the high-end commercial vehicle market through enhanced service offerings.
Currently, many commercial vehicle operators in China lack proper knowledge about tire usage, maintenance, and repair, leading to low tire efficiency. According to statistics, commercial vehicle tires can last up to 1 million kilometers abroad, but often only reach 100,000 kilometers in China. Road conditions and improper usage are major contributing factors.
To address this, Cooper established the new flagship store to help commercial vehicle users improve tire efficiency through professional services. Technical experts are on-site to educate customers on proper tire selection, use, and retreading.
Cooper also offers comprehensive services, including pre-sale guidance and meticulous after-sales support. All products are regularly tracked, and each sold tire is fully documented. For commercial customers, professionals visit their logistics bases to perform tire replacements and air pressure adjustments on-site.
Gu Sili, General Manager of Cooper Tire China, believes that in today’s environment, low-price competition is not the solution. Companies should focus on delivering greater value through product quality, innovation, and service excellence.
High Quality
The newly opened flagship store features products from Cooper Chengshan (Shandong) Tire Co., Ltd., a joint venture between Cooper and Shandong Chengshan, established in early 2006. The product line includes the newly launched Dean brand, as well as specialized tires designed for road and mining conditions.
As a new brand entering the market, Dean’s first three products in China target medium- to long-haul users. These include the A100, suitable for all positions on truck guide wheels and passenger cars; the A220, ideal for all positions on trucks; and the D240, designed for truck drive wheels.
Developed by Cooper Tire’s U.S. R&D headquarters, these tires are specifically tailored for Chinese road conditions and user habits. They offer excellent performance in terms of mileage, comfort, safety, and durability.
These high-quality commercial vehicle tires feature a specially developed rubber compound formula that enhances wear resistance. Their sturdy shoulder design ensures longer mileage and better durability, while reinforced bead and carcass designs allow for extended service life through retreading.
The A100 reduces rolling resistance through advanced rubber formulations, structures, and tread designs, providing excellent fuel economy. The A220 and D240 improve traction through innovative designs, such as block-like patterns and steel sheet integration. The D240’s “Vâ€-shaped tread groove enhances wet traction significantly.
Si Si Li emphasized that Cooper remains committed to improving driving safety, comfort, and longevity, while reducing fuel consumption and extending tire life for Chinese users.
Racing Pedigree
Cooper Tire has deep roots in motorsports, having participated in racing since 1950. It has supplied tires for over 150 events worldwide. After entering the Chinese market in 2006, Cooper continued its passion for racing. The Dean brand was officially launched at the first station of the 6th National Truck Contest in Xiamen this year, where it performed exceptionally as the sole designated tire supplier.
Miao Sili believes that tire performance is best tested under extreme speeds and tough competition. Cooper uses racing experiences to refine its tire technology, applying advanced manufacturing techniques from motorsports to civilian tires, ensuring continuous improvement in product quality.
With excellent quality and service, Cooper has gained significant market recognition. Since the launch of Dean Tire in May, sales have far exceeded expectations.
Despite these achievements, Miao Sili sees enormous potential in China’s commercial vehicle market. To capitalize on this, Cooper is developing a series of strategies for the commercial vehicle segment, which will be announced in due time.
About Cooper Tire: Cooper Tire is currently the eighth-largest tire company globally and the second-largest in North America. It specializes in the replacement tire market, offering a wide range of products for passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and motorcycles, including professional and racing tires. In April 2006, Cooper entered the Chinese market and currently operates two joint ventures in Shandong and Kunshan.
